"Persepolis" (March 26)

March 26: “Persepolis” I decided to read Persepolis this week. Even though I had read the comic before, back in middle school, there were moments that I didn’t remember. I wanted to go back look at what I forgot.I was always aware of the the comic, mainly through the animated film. This is where I become familiar with comics, is through their adaptations and interpretations in the media, from film to television. The main way I got to look at Persepolis this week was by looking at videos and essays pertaining to Persepolis . While reading Persepolis , I immediately relate to the main protagonist and her sense of wonder when it comes to the lifestyles of another place other than the one she’s known. Marjane has the personality that causes the reader to relate tot her, whether you are that person, amor know someone like her. Having grown up in her islamic home and raised in a Islamic revolution, she gets used to her home. When something new is introduced to her, she is entranced

"March: Book One" (Mar 19)

March 19: “March: Book One” While reading March , I was really taken by the illustrations in the panels. I really felt like these were smaller paintings in one big, continuous and sequential painting. I really feel that the black and white images were indicative to the mood and atmosphere of the story and its characters. The fact that these stories have been inspired by memoirs and other events relating to the Civil Right Movement I like stories that depict a character in a certain time in history. Here, it depicts a teen who works in a family farm, ranging chickens int he time area of the Martin Luther King days. I really feel that creating a character in a certain time can help younger viewers/ readers see and learn about that time era in a more personal light. The youngster is a very serious about his education and his work ethic and is a character young readers can relate to and appeal to. Once the character learns, and relates to the real world issues in their story. I feel

"Maus" (March 5)

March  5: “Maus”  Having a comic that deals with subject matter such as survival, nazis, and the invasion of Poland can really be the type of story that can be both positive and negative. I say this because of how these types of stories can be intriguing to some, while divisive at times With this, I feel that really helps these types of comics, like ones like Maus, and stories become interesting and help them land with certain audiences. When I talk about the positives and negatives, I refer to how people may look at the book. The positive being how a tragic story, such as the invasion of Poland, Auschwitz (“Maus”chwitz?), and having it illustrated can help those who may not be familiar learn form it. I also feel that having these events be portrayed through anthropomorphic animals helps younger audiences be introduced and learn of these historical events.  The negative can be how the subject matter may be polarizing to some. When some people look at a comic, they think of it as
